Turbo Lab Professor Receives Invite for Adjunct Professorship in China
A Turbomachinery Laboratory professor has been invited to be an adjunct professor of a top 10 global institution for mechanical engineering.
Dr. Luis San Andrés, Mast-Childs Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University will serve two weeks twice a year lecturing at China’s Xi’an Jiaotong University. He will mentor graduate students and collaborate with a team of researchers. The appointment is a recognition of San Andrés’ work in the field of rotordynamics of turbomachinery, structural vibrations and computational mechanics.
“China has a strong interest in developing rotating machinery,” San Andrés said. Xi’an Jiaotong University is a world class university ranking ninth in mechanical engineering on the 2017 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Dr. San Andrés also plans to spend a sabbatical leave of one semester at X’ian Jiaotong in the Fall of 2019.
The adjunct professorship is an opportunity to introduce the Turbo Lab to the rest of the world. The appointment also provides an avenue to gauge differences in thinking and create connections.
“The Turbo Lab, a legacy of Dr. Dara Childs, is the number one lab in the world for turbomachinery reliability,” San Andrés said.
