Turbomachinery Symposium Program
The program offered at the Turbomachinery Symposium consists of Short Courses, which last all day, while Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday feature alternating Lectures, Tutorials, Discussion Groups, Case Studies.
The daily schedule is set to maximize learning and networking opportunities. Staggered scheduling allows you to choose those sessions that best meet your professional interests and needs.
About Short Courses
- A Short Course is a full day training session.
- All short courses are presented at the same time on MONDAY, so only ONE may be taken.
- Registration includes course notebook and lunch, but does NOT include symposium attendance for the remainder of the week.
The goal of the workshop is to give the attendees a working knowledge of the subject matter, so they can immediately apply this new knowledge in the workplace.
Presenters include hands-on workshops where the methods presented are demonstrated and performed by the participants.
Short course materials are printed and bound separately from the symposium Proceedings and are provided to short course attendees, and generally are sold to the public for a brief period after the symposium.
About Lectures
- A Lecture is a presentation of a technical paper detailing cutting-edge, emerging technology. The described technology has been successfully field tested at least once.
- Lectures consist of 30 to 35 minutes of presentation and 10 to 15 minutes of questions and discussion. Normally, two lectures are presented consecutively in one 90 minute time slot.
- Lecture papers are published in the symposium Proceedings.
About Tutorials
- A Tutorial is a mini short course/workshop. It is a teaching process. Some tutorial speakers actually bring equipment to the meeting, so the participants get hands-on instruction.
- Tutorials are scheduled in one and one-half hour blocks, with 30 to 45 minutes of the time devoted to questions and answers.
- Tutorials are presented twice and are published in the symposium Proceedings.
About Discussion Groups
- The discussion groups are structured to address and solve the problems brought by attendees for examination. Discussion group participants bring many years of experience to the sessions.
- This is your opportunity to get and give help. Bring your problems to the discussion groups, and you will go home with proven solutions from your pump colleagues.
- Discussion Group topics are suggestions only. Actual topics discussed will be determined by those attending each session.
About Case Studies
- A Case Study is a presentation describing the successful implementation of established technology to solve a real-world problem.
- Case studies are written with end-users in mind. They are not published in the symposium Proceedings, but are provided in the symposium materials bag on CD to all attendees.
- The presentations typically consist of 10 to 20 slides or transparencies, and are limited to 15 minutes, with an additional five minutes provided for questions.
