GENERAL INFORMATION

Please complete the Audio Visual Request Form and return by the indicated date, even if you do not require anything in addition to the Standard Setup. The standard equipment configuration for technical session presentations can be found HERE.

All speakers are encouraged to take advantage of the Speaker Ready Room (352B) to prepare for your presentation. Absolutely no logos or company names can be present on visual presentations.

Please attach lavalier microphones in the center of your chest, one-third of the way down from your neck to your waist, bearing in mind that when you turn your head far from the microphone, your voice may not be heard. Please speak slowly and clearly so that all members of the audience can understand you.

Due to changes in technology and increased costs, 35mm slide projection and overhead projection will no longer be standard equipment, but can be specifically requested.

Video projection can be accommodated but must be specifically requested. The Turbomachinery Laboratory will provide standard equipment for computer and video projection. Anything beyond the standard equipment will be at the presenter’s expense and will be billed directly to them. For specifics as to what comprises the standard equipment or for upgrade information, we will put you directly in touch with our AV representative. Please contact Joanne Burnett. In the case of computer driven slides, the presenter must provide his own computer and software.

SLIDES—FROM OUR EXPERIENCE

  • No more than six lines on a slide. For headings, 48 point type is ideal, while other type should be about 24 points.
  • The use of computer generated slides is common. Most software packages provide templates and guidance on number of lines, colors, font size, etc.
  • Dark backgrounds with light text work best.
  • Do not run text to the extreme margin of slides.
  • Do not reproduce detailed tables onto slides, they cannot be seen. Instead, present one or two rows as an example.
  • Use the Internet as a resource. There is a great deal of presentation information available.
