January 8, 2018 By Turbolab

The Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A&M continues to influence the industry. This time in Zurich.

Dr. Dara W. Childs, Dr. Luis San Andrés and Dag O. Calafell, II will each play a role in the Global Power & Propulsion Forum that opens today in Switzerland.

The three-day forum (Jan. 10-12) offers a robust technical program featuring panel discussions and peer-reviewed presentations.

“This three-day event is an excellent occasion for you to meet with colleagues from all over the world, creating many opportunities for networking, collaboration, and building of trusting relationships,” forum chairman Reza S. Abhari said in the program’s welcome message.

Childs, who recently retired from his positions as Turbo Lab director and chair of the Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia (TPS) advisory committees, will deliver one of the forum’s nine keynote speeches. His speech is titled, “The Remarkable Turbomachinery-Rotordynamics Developments during the Last Quarter of the 20th Century.”

San Andrés, Mast-Childs Chair Professor, served as Technical Program Chair. In addition, he will also present “The Influence of Inlet Corner Shape on the Static and Dynamic Performance of an Annular Pressure Seal” with Turbo Lab post-doctoral research associate Dr. Jing Yang.

Calafell, chair of the Asia Turbomachinery & Pump Symposium (ATPS) and TPS adviser, will participate as a panelist for a discussion on the impact of digitalization in industry.

Additionally, several members of the TPS and ATPS advisory committees serve as either keynote speakers or authors for the event, including Dr. Rainer Kurz of Solar Turbines Incorporated, Dr. Klaus Brun of Southwest Research Institute and Dr. Stefan S. Florjancic of Ansaldo Energia.
