CCOPS (Centrifugal Compressor Operations)

Dates                                                                                                                                                                              March 16–19, 2026

Location                                                                                                                                                                          Turbomachinery Laboratory, TL Conference Room 163, College Station, TX

The CCOPS short course is intended for early and mid-level rotating equipment professionals who want to enhance their knowledge of centrifugal compressor design and the design and operation of centrifugal compression systems. The compressor design portion of the course examines the aero/thermodynamic, mechanical (bearings, seals and impellers) and rotordynamic aspects of the design and analysis of centrifugal compressors and their components. This material is supplemented by coverage of compression system related topics such as compressor selection, configuration and layout, installation, transient operation, performance evaluation and process/anti-surge control. A brief introduction to various drivers and compression train components is also included.

This course offers a practical approach to understanding basic vibration theory and using it to solve mechanical vibration problems. Rotordynamics terminology in common use will be defined and explained, including critical speeds, critical speed inversion, unbalance response, and rotordynamic instability. Covers rotordynamic topics including force coefficients for bearings, seals, impellers, turbine wheels, and squeeze film dampers; troubleshooting oil film bearings; the finite element and transfer matrix methods; and more.
