The Turbomachinery Laboratory makes a vital impact on the turbomachinery, pump and related industries through three pathways: research, education, and workforce development. As part of its workforce development arm, the Turbo Lab offers extended short courses throughout the year led by industry experts and academics. Courses range from three-to-five days and offer working professionals valuable education opportunities in an interactive environment. Continuing Education Units (CEU) are awarded upon course completion.
2024-2025 Short Course Offerings
Rotordynamics | MARCH 18 – 21, 2024
Location: Embassy Suites by Hilton San Antonio Airport Hotel
The emphasis for this course is on turbomachines such as turbines, compressors, expanders, motors, pumps, and generators. The intent is to understand the rotordynamics of these machines and their subcomponents to help select, analyze, troubleshoot and repair them for maximum reliability and minimum vibration problems. This is not a math-intensive course. Case histories and several workshops for hands-on evaluation of actual machines will be given.
Basic Pump Fundamentals: Pump 101 | April 24 – 25, 2024
Location: Texas A&M Turbomachinery Laboratory
Pump 101 is a basic overview of pumps and pumping theory. The course is designed to review the basic pump designs or classifications and many of their applications on where they are used. We also cover the properties of fluids and the influence of pump choice and performance. This class is designed as an introductory for many topics such as the concepts of flow and pressure, viscosity, pump construction, cavitation, NPSH and an introduction to pump performance curves.
