Internal – Vehicle Use Agreement (Turbo Truck)

*THIS VEHICLE RUNS ON DIESEL FUEL ONLY* This truck is equipped with a diesel engine that uses glow plugs. The glow plugs are designed to heat thencombustion chambers in the engine before the vehicle is started. Repeatedly starting the engine before the glownplugs shut off automatically will result in reduced glow plug life and possible damage to the engine and glow plugnsystem. You must wait for the glow plug light to switch off before starting the engine. The glow plug indicatornlight is located at the bottom on the right side of the tachometer (engine RPM gauge). The indicator light looks likenthis:nTurn the key to the “run” position, wait for the glow plug indicator light to go out, then turn the key to the “start”nposition and start the vehicle in the normal manner.nThis truck handles and drives differently from a gasoline powered vehicle. There is a lag between stepping on thenaccelerator and when the vehicle begins to pick up speed due to turbocharger lag time. Do not attempt to “beatntraffic”. Stepping hard on the accelerator will initially cause a lag in acceleration followed by a rapid increase innspeed and possible tire slippage. This can result in an unsafe condition where you may lose control of the vehicle.nAdditionally, “jack-rabbit” starts cause unnecessary wear on the vehicle and reduced life of vehicle components.nAll acceleration should be moderate and you must give yourself plenty of time to get out into traffic.nThere will be no eating or drinking in any Turbomachinery Laboratory vehicle. The vehicle must be clean and readynfor the next user before you turn in the keys to the Facility Manager.nThere will be no speeding in any University System vehicle. You are expected to obey all traffic laws at all timesnand conduct yourself as a representative of the Turbomachinery Lab and Texas A&M. Traffic citations are to benreported to the Facility Manager immediately upon your return to the lab.nThis vehicle is to be used for official Turbomachinery Laboratory business only. Do not stop at convenience stores, nfast food or other types of restaurants, liquor stores, bars, clubs or your home in this vehicle. You are to conductnyour business and return the vehicle to the Turbomachinery Laboratory immediately.
